KidDead
KidDead
Nashville has a new sheriff in town, and it's not country, it's rap. Formerly known for his work with hip hop group Last of the Horsemen, kidDEAD has taken new ground with ferociously gentle word-plays combined with concise heartfelt lyrics. kidDEAD doesn't just write raps, he writes soul songs that follow a track in and out of the ears, making stops at all the right stations in your mind. With a wide range of influences from Say Anything to Outkast to Aesop Rock, kidDEAD is poised and ready to push his way onto your iPod and stay there
Torito
Torito
Whether in his grungy basement studio or on the shoddy stage of a local watering hole, Torito provides a deluge of multisyllabic wit, absurdist imagery, personal musing, and societal reflection. It's a bit like observing a psychotherapy session in which the shrink foregoes the typical elevator music/Yanni/nature sounds playlist in favor of a carefully curated beat set, and the patient attempts to keep a partial grasp of reality, voices all of his thoughts in complex internal rhyme schemes, and wears a leather bull mask.
Cody Cody Jones
Cody Cody Jones
Currently Philadelphia resident /Pittsburgh native DIY hip hop emcee, Cody Cody Jones, has a heavy influence from skateboarding and punk culture, as well as underground rap. Cody has numerous releases and takes on the DIY mentality in many forms. whether he’s self publishing zines “complete with typo's, grammatical errors, misspellings, cropped out words, upside-down pages, stolen content, old news, handwritten corrections, and many more amateur mistakes.”, or planing an action packed tour full of “sleeping on hardwood floors . . . standing awkwardly around a bunch of drunk strangers”, or “cooking mac n cheese at someones house.” You can be sure to catch Cody in any corner of the country doing a unique blend of underground rap full of slow and smooth deliveries packed full of internal rhyme patterns for a genre of hip hop some would call, "elevator rap."
